For more than 10 years, Karen has been a leader in our restoration ecology group. She’s a registered landscape architect who specializes in the design and planning of habitat restoration and open space projects in California and the western United States. In addition to her design and planning work, Karen’s activities include coordinating projects with regulatory agencies and stakeholders, working closely with clients on strategic and technical decisions, overseeing restoration design and planning, preparation of construction documents, and providing bid support.

Karen has extensive experience in construction oversight so she is able to respond quickly and efficiently when field conditions dictate the need to modify plans. She has managed teams of ecologists and landscape architects in dozens of habitat restoration and open space construction projects.

Some of her projects include:

  • wetland and riparian revegetation design for a flood protection project extending more than 9 miles in Santa Clara County, California;
  • habitat restoration, sustainable campus upgrades, and improvements to the trail user experience along nearly 1 mile of a San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission public trail and throughout the Facebook campus in Menlo Park, California;
  • restoration of San Francisco Public Utilities Commission lands across multiple sites encompassing wetland, oak woodland, and scrub habitat in San Mateo County, California; and
  • management and preparation of a master plan for the City of San Mateo’s Laurelwood Park and Sugarloaf Mountain Open Space.

She has been on the board of the California Society for Ecological Restoration since 2004.

Karen received an M.L.A. from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a B.S. in environmental biology and management from the University of California, Davis.
