Karin Hunsicker joined the firm as COO in 2004 and has been the chief executive officer since 2013. She oversees all operations, including finance, legal, human resources, marketing, and administrative activities. Karin maintains a strong operational foundation that enables our scientists and professionals to fulfill our mission to create ecologically sound solutions to clients’ complex natural resource challenges. She continually evaluates opportunities to be more efficient and effective, and designs and implements best-practice processes to support excellence in company operations, services, and staff.

Karin has an M.B.A. from the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley; an M.S. in environmental engineering from the University of Southern California; and a B.A. in biopsychology from Wesleyan University.

Ron Duke is a wildlife and wetlands ecologist who has directed thousands of projects since he started with the firm 40 years ago. President of H. T. Harvey & Associates since 1990, he guides its overall technical and philosophical direction as a premier ecological consulting firm. He is an expert on the endangered salt marsh harvest mouse and the ecology and restoration of the marsh habitat on which it depends.

Ron received an M.A. in animal ecology from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and a B.A. in biological sciences/ecology from the University of California, Berkeley.

Dan Duke is president and a principal of H. T. Harvey & Associates, He has more than twenty years of experience as lawyer and regulatory specialist, including 10 years in various roles at the company. He is responsible for providing strategic leadership to more than 80 employees in five offices in California and Hawai‘i.

Dan received a J.D. with Environmental Law specialization from Golden Gate University School of Law and a B.A. in Communication from California State University, Fresno.

Dr. Scott Terrill, vice president and the principal in charge of our Hawaii office and company research activities, is an internationally recognized avian ecology and behavior expert, with more than 40 years of experience studying birds, 30 of them at H. T. Harvey & Associates. He has made major contributions to the study of bird migration and movements, and also has a strong background in vertebrate community ecology and population biology in terrestrial, estuarine, and marine habitats. His current focus areas are assessing and mitigating the potential effects of solar, wind and marine hydrokinetic projects can have on birds, and applying our wildlife and renewable energy-related expertise to projects in California and other western states and Hawaii.

Scott has a Ph.D. in biology/ecology from the State University of New York, Albany, and M.S. and B.S. in zoology from Arizona State University.

Dr. Brian Boroski is a vice president and principal and the head of operations for our San Joaquin Valley office. He has more than 30 years of experience as a wildlife ecologist with an extensive history of working on projects involving endangered species, permitting, and permit compliance in many arenas, including utility-scale renewable energy, particularly solar. He applies his experience and regulatory knowledge to develop and implement effective strategies. Brian manages regional assessments of special-status species, long-term monitoring projects, initial studies, environmental impact reports, biological assessments, habitat conservation plans, and project-level and programmatic incidental take consultations. He has authored numerous scientific publications for regional, national, and international journals; books; and symposium proceedings.

Brian received a Ph.D. in wildland resource science from the University of California, Berkeley; an M.S. in natural resources from Humboldt State University; and a B.S. in biology from Northern Illinois University.

Dr. Steve Rottenborn is a principal in the wildlife ecology group in the San Francisco Bay Area office with more than 30 years of experience. He specializes in resolving issues related to special-status wildlife species and in meeting the wildlife-related requirements of federal and state environmental laws and regulations. Combining his research and training as a wildlife biologist and avian ecologist, Steve has built an impressive professional career that is highlighted by a particular interest in wetland and riparian communities, as well as the effects of human activities on bird populations and communities. Steve’s experience extends to numerous additional special-status animal species. The breadth of his ecological training and project experience enables him to expertly manage multidisciplinary projects involving a broad array of biological issues.

Steve received a Ph.D. in biological sciences from Stanford University and a B.S. in biology from the College of William and Mary.

Max Busnardo is a principal in charge of our restoration ecology group. He has more than 30 years of experience, specializing in ecosystem restoration, wetland ecology, and watershed-scale ecological assessment. His project work spans a diversity of ecosystems found in the western United States, including tidal wetland, riparian, freshwater wetland, vernal pool, oak woodland, and coastal scrub. Max leads cross-disciplinary teams through all phases of challenging habitat restoration and mitigation projects from conceptual planning and environmental review, through permitting, design, construction and long-term monitoring.

Max earned an M.S. in ecology from San Diego State University; an M.S. in biochemistry from the University of California, San Diego; and a B.S. in environmental studies and chemistry from Stockton State College.

Joe Howard is a licensed landscape architect and leader of the Landscape Architecture group. He is adept in all stages of the design and planning process. Joe helps identify and resolve ecological concerns during the early stages of site design and planning and specializes in translating complex biological issues into intelligent planning and construction documents. He has led numerous trail and park projects that involve habitat restoration.

Joe received an M.L.A. and a B.S. in natural resources landscape design and planning from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Dr. Sharon Kramer is an aquatic ecologist and principal who heads our Redwood Coast office. She has more than 30 years of experience in aquatic ecology and fisheries biology. Sharon is well-versed in fish and aquatic habitat restoration and monitoring, and project permitting. Her current focus is assessing the environmental effects associated with renewable energy projects to develop mitigation and adaptive management strategies for project permitting.

Sharon received a Ph.D. in marine biology from Scripps Institution of Oceanography; an M.S. in zoology from the University of Hawai‘i; and a B.A. in aquatic biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Dr. Kelly Hardwicke is a plant and invertebrate ecologist who leads our plant and wetland ecology team. She has  more than 30 years of experience classifying and describing habitats and identifying the component flora and invertebrates found on project sites. She frequently surveys sites for special-status plant species, performs wetland delineations, writes California Environmental Quality Act documents, and provides regulatory permit assistance. Her strong research and botanical background and her extensive experience leading field investigations provides her with a high degree of credibility with State and federal resource and regulatory agencies regarding survey results, suitability assessments, and wetland delineations. She also has expertise in entomology and community ecology which nables her to distinguish significant plant-invertebrate community associations when conducting site assessments.

Kelly has a Ph.D. in ecology from Colorado State University and a B.A. in biology from Reed College.

Amy Sparks is a principal in the San Joaquin Valley office with more than 20 years of experience. With expertise in both ecology and law, she efficiently navigates projects through environmental regulatory processes. She directs and manages the permit processes of large construction projects and overseeing development of measures to avoid and mitigate impacts on terrestrial, freshwater, and coastal resources. Amy’s expertise covers preparation of the biological sections of environmental impact reports and environmental impact statements, identification of potential wildlife and regulatory constraints for a project, managing and developing biological assessments for federal and state Endangered Species Act consultations, and developing effective mitigation measures.

Amy has a J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law and a B.S. in forestry from the University of California, Berkeley.

Matt Wacker is a principal in our Sacramento office and leads the company’s land management services. With more than 20 years of experience, he has played a key role on hundreds of projects across California related to natural resources inventory, management, restoration, and monitoring. His particular area of expertise is the ecology and management of grasslands, montane meadows, oak woodlands, and associated wetland and riparian ecosystems. Matt is also a Certified Rangeland Manager licensed to prepare rangeland management plans and similar documents on nonfederal lands within California.

Matt has an M.S. in environmental science, policy, and management from the University of California, Berkeley; a Master of City Planning from the University of California, Berkeley; and a B.A. in behavioral ecology from the University of California, Davis.

Robin is a principal and ornithologist in our wildlife group with 20 years of experience. She has extensive experience with the biology and habitats of common and special-status wildlife species in the greater Bay Area. Robin’s accumulated knowledge of local wildlife species and their habitats has allowed her to contribute in-depth knowledge of species’ biology to a variety of environmental documents. She is well-versed with the regulatory requirements of CEQA as it relates to the preparation of environmental documents, and has a strong understanding of the state and federal Endangered Species Acts, which allows her to prepare effective environmental documents that fully satisfy the regulatory requirements of the agencies that issue discretionary permits.

Robin received an M.S. in Fish and Wildlife Management from Montana State University and a B.S. in Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution from the University of California, San Diego.

Gavin Archbald is a senior associate restoration ecologist specializing in the management of restoration projects in wetland and riparian communities. He has more than a decade of experience working in a range of habitat communities, Gavin creates cost-effective, feasible restoration designs that provide multiple benefits. He is certified in applying California Rapid Assessment Method (CRAM) in tidal marshes, depression wetlands, and riparian areas. Gavin has an M.S. and B.S. in Biology from San Francisco State University and a B.A. in Communications from the University of California, San Diego.

Rachel Visscher is a landscape architect and project manager with 10 years of experience, with a background in design and planning. She contributes to master plans, develops conceptual designs, and prepares construction documents in support of the design and planning process for various project types, including trail and open space, urban ecology, and habitat restoration projects. Rachel also has experience thoughtfully incorporating Universal Design principles and Americans with Disabilities Act standards into site design.

Rachel received an M.L.A. and M.U.P. from the University of Michigan and a B.A. in Studio Art and German from Calvin College.

Dr. Jeff Smith is a senior wildlife ecologist and ornithologist, with particular expertise in raptor biology, ecology, and conservation with more than 30 years of experience. His raptor expertise he brings to our involvement with renewable energy projects greatly improves our ability to determine the effects of these projects on raptors and identify the most effective measures to mitigate these effects. Jeff assesses and mitigates impacts on wildlife, develops monitoring plans and conservation strategies, and prepares information for CEQA and federal permitting documents for clients. He develops and implements initial constraints analyses, site characterization studies, baseline surveys, general bird and bat conservation strategies, eagle conservation plans, deterrent strategies, and postconstruction bird and bat monitoring programs for wind, solar, and other utility and energy-related facilities.

Jeff received a Ph.D. in wildlife ecology from the University of Florida; an M.S. in biology-ecology from Utah State University; and a B.A. in zoology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Charles McClain is a senior restoration ecologist with more than 20 years of experience. His breadth of skills includes habitat restoration, monitoring, and management; riparian, wetland, grassland, and oak woodland ecology; invasive species detection, mapping, and treatment; cattle grazing infrastructure and residual dry matter monitoring; and scientific research. Charles monitors habitat development at restoration sites; develops restoration planting, maintenance, and monitoring plans; performs wetland delineations; and conducts plant community assessments, including oak regeneration studies and grazing utilization mapping. He applies his expertise to document progress toward meeting required vegetation, wildlife, and hydrology success criteria at mitigation sites.

Charles received an M.S. in Biology from California State University, Chico, and a B.A. in Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Mark is the leader of the geographic information systems (GIS) group with more than 20 years of experience. Throughout his career, Mark has worked closely with biologists and engineers to develop and apply spatial data on large, complex projects. He has managed more than 300 GIS projects for client reports, including detailed analysis of stream banks, spatial analysis of species of special concern, and mapping of wetlands and marshes.

Mark has a B.S. in marine biology from Nicholls State University.

Dr. David Ainley is one of the most published marine scientists globally and has received numerous awards for his research. David has studied all aspects of marine ecosystems, including seabird ecology, for more than 40 years. He has led annual research on marine birds and mammals in Antarctica for more than 35 years and has conducted research for more than 20 years on the distribution of birds and mammals at sea on the West Coast of the United States, in the subpolar/temperate South Atlantic and Pacific, and in the eastern tropical and temperate Pacific. David also is an expert on the ecology of the Hawaiian petrel and Newell’s shearwater.

He received a Ph.D. in Animal Behavior and Ecology from Johns Hopkins University and a B.S. in Biology from Dickinson College.

Dr. Shahin Ansari has nearly 20 years of experience in tropical botany, plant ecology, and the invasion biology of island ecosystems. She is an adept project manager and has worked successfully with federal, state, and local governments, the private sector, and numerous stakeholders to create or implement natural resource management and conservation plans. Shahin has conducted extensive ecological research in Hawai‘i and has a deep understanding of the Islands’ wide-ranging habitats, unique native biota, and ecological history. The expertise she brings to our Hawai’i office includes Hawaiian flora, vegetation ecology, invasive species, endangered species, wetlands, habitat restoration, and environmental mitigation.

Shahin received a Ph.D. in botany with a specialization in ecology, evolution, and conservation biology from the University of Hawai‘i, Manoa; an M.S. in botany from the University of Bombay; and a B.S. in physics, chemistry, and botany from the University of Bombay.

Kate Drake is a senior restoration ecologist and project manager with more than 7 years of professional experience. She has worked on projects on the East Coast, Midwest, Colorado, and in California on sites characterized by bottomland forested, montane seep, and tidal wetlands as well as upland riparian areas. Kate leads project teams and contributes to various phases of ecosystem restoration projects from restoration planning and permitting, to construction and long-term monitoring.

Kate received her MS in Environmental Science from Indiana University and her BA in Environmental Studies from American University.

Dr. Sara Grove is a senior restoration ecologist and project manager in our San Francisco Bay Area office. She applies her expertise in habitat restoration, urban ecology, and management of invasive plants to client projects. She is skilled at building strong collaborative relationships with agencies, conservation organizations, landowners, and academic institutions.

Sara has a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz and a B.S. in Ecology from The Evergreen State College.

Jacquie Maher is a senior wildlife ecologist and project manager with more than 12 years of experience with aquatic and wildlife ecology. Jacquie conducts protocol surveys for protected species, wildlife trapping and monitoring, nesting bird surveys, wetland and restoration monitoring, salmonid snorkel surveys, and non-native weed surveys. She also conducts surveys for vernal pool invertebrates under a federal 10(a)(1)(A) permit. Jacquie holds a 10(a)(1)(A) permit for vernal pool invertebrates, California red-legged frog, and aquatic surveys for California tiger salamander and is a Level II surveyor for the blunt-nosed leopard lizard. Mammals she has experience with include the San Joaquin kit fox, the giant kangaroo rat, bats, American badgers, and the San Joaquin antelope squirrel.

Jacquie received an M.S. in Natural Resources and Environmental Science from the University of Nevada, Reno and a B.S. in Environmental Biology and Management, University of California, Davis.

Megan Richards is a senior landscape architect and project manager in the San Francisco Bay Area office. She has 15 years of experience in landscape architecture and is a certified arborist and qualified firescaping professional. Megan also has a strong background in horticulture. The majority of her project experience has been in the San Francisco Bay Area, ranging from a Complete Streets project in Contra Costa County to a public park at Cooley Landing in San Mateo County to a post-fire roadway project in Sonoma County. Her graduate project, “22nd Street Missing Link: Choreographing the Urban Watershed” won the ASLA-NCC Award of Excellence. Megan leads project teams at the intersection of the urban environment and the natural world. She contributes to master plans, develops conceptual designs, and prepares construction documents in support of the design and planning process for various project types, including trail and open space and habitat restoration projects. Megan also provides arborist services in connection with restoration and landscape architecture projects.

Megan has a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Landscape Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley Extension and a B.A. in Environmental Sciences from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Jeff Seay is a senior wildlife ecologist and project manager with more than 30 years of experience identifying birds in California. In addition to his expertise on birds, Jeff has extensive knowledge of other wildlife found in the Central Valley of California, including mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. Jeff conducts general avian activity surveys, raptor-specific surveys, and preconstruction surveys for nesting birds, including for large-scale renewable energy projects. He has contributed to the biological resources sections of more than 500 EIRs and to smaller biological assessments and analyses.

Jeff has a B.A. in biology from California State University, Fresno.

Gregory Spencer is a senior wildlife ecologist and project manager based in Maui, Hawai’i with more than 20 years of experience. His wildlife ecology experience involves several years of seabird research throughout the Hawaiian Islands, Alaska, and the eastern North Pacific, both colony-based and at-sea, including the development and implementation of conservation management programs aimed at promoting conservation benefits for ESA listed species. , and conservation organizations are instrumental in assisting clients and facilitating project success in Hawai‘i.

Greg received a B.S. in Marine Ecology from the University of Hawai’i, Hilo.

Dr. Jeff Wilkinson is a herpetologist and project manager with more than 25 years of research experience in the phylogenetics, biogeography, taxonomy, natural history, and ecology of reptiles and amphibians. He is authorized under the company’s 10(a)(1)(A) permit from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to handle California red-legged frogs and California tiger salamanders throughout their ranges, and he is a Level II surveyor for the blunt-nosed leopard lizard. In addition, Jeff possesses a current scientific collecting permit for reptiles and amphibians in California, including species of special concern and the threatened California tiger salamander.

Jeff received a Ph.D. in zoology from Texas Tech University and M.S. and B.S. in zoology from Brigham Young University.

Chris Strasser is a senior landscape architect and project manager with a strong background in design, graphic representation, and ecology. She specializes in site planning, urban ecological design, and construction document preparation. Chris has a broad understanding of human use and ecological issues, and a keen ability to create human-scale spaces that allow people and nature to gracefully coexist. She has showcased these skills in her work on projects involving park and open space design, bike and pedestrian circulation, and urban ecosystems.

Chris received an M.L.A. from the University of Michigan and a B.S. in Political Science and International Studies from the University of Wisconsin.

Ethan Barnes is a senior plant ecologist and project manager with more than 20 years of experience. He has conducted surveys for special-status plant species, performed wetland delineations, and mapped vegetative cover types in a wide variety of plant communities throughout California and other parts of the United States. His botanical surveys have involved inventorying plant species in numerous habitat types, including wetland, grassland, chaparral, oak woodland, montane, desert, halophytic, and anthropogenic communities.

Ethan received an M.S. in Forestry from Northern Arizona University and a B.S. in Environmental Science from Western Washington University.

Logan Egan is a landscape designer and project manager with more than seven years of design and planning experience. His past experience has ranged from contributing to long term master plans to hands-on design and installation of greywater systems, drought tolerant landscapes, and food systems. He also has a background in entrepreneurship and sustainable agriculture which informs his work. Logan has strong collaborative and communication skills. Logan has worked on multiple urban campus master plans as well as a municipal tree planning document. He has taken a lead design and management role on the landscape for a central utility plant for a corporate campus, including the detailed design of bioretention basins utilizing wetland plants. Logan applies his background in ecology and sustainable landscape design to integrate ecology into the urban fabric, and brings a creative and practical eye to client projects.

Logan has an M.L.A. in Landscape Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley and an M.S. and B.S. in Earth Systems from Stanford University.

Katie Gallagher is a senior ecologist and project manager in the botany group with more than 10 years of experience. She has worked in public, private, and non-profit land management. As a botanist, her professional background includes conducting botanical and rare plant assessments and vegetation mapping, designing and implementing restoration projects, and wetland monitoring. As a regulatory specialist, she has acquired many environmental permits for multiple regulatory agencies and written botanical sections of CEQA documentation. Katie assists in the design of biological monitoring methods, coordinates field work, and oversees junior technical staff. She conducts botanical and ecological studies, including protocol-level special-status plant surveys, vegetation mapping, wetland delineation, invasive plant surveys, and assists with restoration implementation and monitoring.

Katie has an M. S. in Botany and Plant Pathology from Oregon State University and a B. S. in Biology from California State University, Long Beach.

Zachery Gizicki is a senior restoration ecologist and project manager in our San Francisco Bay Area office. He has more than 10 years of experience working in different habitats across the U. S. Zachery has contributed to all phases of restoration projects, from surveys to project design and permitting, construction and vegetation monitoring, to coordination with mitigation site maintenance contractors and post construction monitoring. He is skilled at delineating wetland and riparian habitats and has mapped and monitored a range of vegetation communities.

Zachery received an M.S. in Conservation Ecology and a B.S. Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Michigan.

Craig Fosdick is a senior wildlife ecologist and project manager in the wildlife ecology group in our San Francisco Bay Area office. He has more than 35 years of experience, both professional and recreational, identifying birds by sight and sound. Craig also has a strong background in ecological principles, survey methods, and scientific communication. He has conducted surveys for nesting and roosting burrowing owls and other raptors, including golden and bald eagles. In addition to avian expertise, Craig has worked on projects that involved San Francisco the dusky-footed woodrat, amphibians, bats, western pond turtle, and salmonids. As a senior wildlife ecologist, Craig leads field teams which perform a range of duties to support client projects, including nesting bird surveys, special-status species surveys, habitat assessments, and compliance monitoring. He contributes to NEPA/CEQA reports and environmental compliance documents. His expertise allows him to serve as the lead biologist for many of our nesting bird and construction monitoring projects, and he also trains other team members in nest surveys and interpreting nesting bird behavior.

Craig received an M.S. in Biology from Boise State University and a B.S. in Biology from the State University of New York at Oswego.

Ryan Hegstad is a senior restoration ecologist, ISA Certified Arborist, and project manager in our San Francisco Bay Area office. He has 7 years of professional experience as well as training in ecology, botany, restoration, and arboriculture. At H. T. Harvey & Associates, Ryan manages restoration and arboricultural projects. In addition to managing projects Ryan develops study and sampling designs, writes maintenance and monitoring plans, conducts plant surveys, analyzes data, and provides arboricultural services on a variety of projects.

Ryan received an M.S. in organismal biology, ecology, and evolution from the University of Montana and a B.S. in plant sciences form the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Jane Lien is a senior wildlife ecologist and project manager in the wildlife ecology group in our San Francisco Bay Area office. In her decade of experience as a wildlife ecologist, she has worked with a broad array of special-status wildlife species found in Northern California. Her knowledge of the regulatory requirements for these species allows her to effectively contribute to a variety of client projects including ESA/CESA consultations, CEQA/NEPA biological resource assessments, special-status species surveys, bird-safe design assessments, nesting bird and raptor surveys and monitoring, and construction implementation/permit compliance. She is skilled at species survey and compliance techniques and has served as a designated biologist for California red-legged frog, California tiger salamander, and Alameda whipsnake.

Jane received a B.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife Science from Oregon State University.

Marianne Huizing is a senior wildlife ecologist and project manager with more than 12 years of wildlife and research experience. She has a focus on special-status vertebrate species and wildlife-habitat relationships. Marianne has researched or surveyed for cottontails, squirrels, chipmunks, kangaroo rats, woodrats, and other small rodents in a variety of habitats: riparian, wetland, grassland, forest, and desert. She also has conducted avian research and surveys, particularly in the San Joaquin Valley, including for nonbreeding long-billed and wintering shorebirds, wading birds, waterfowl, burrowing owls, northern harriers, and ferruginous hawks. For client projects, Marianne conducts surveys; leads efforts in capture and relocation programs for small mammals, including giant kangaroo rat, Tipton kangaroo rat, short-nosed kangaroo rat, and San Joaquin antelope squirrel; analyzes project impacts on wildlife; records data; and prepares reports and impact analyses. She holds a 10(a)(1)(A) permit for the Tipton kangaroo rat and giant kangaroo rat.

Marianne received her M.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies from California State University, Stanislaus, and her B.S. in Environmental Studies from Trinity Western University in British Columbia.

Ben Pearl is a senior wildlife ecologist and project manager in the wildlife ecology group in our San Francisco Bay Area office. He has more than 10 years of experience working in San Francisco Bay and Monterey Bay tidal marshes, managed wetlands, uplands habitats, and sandy beaches. His expertise is in general avian ecology, with a specialty in shorebird and seabird ecology. A recognized western snowy plover expert, Ben has performed snowy plover surveys for federal, state, and local agencies throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Additionally, he has conducted surveys and monitoring for other special-status species, including the California least tern. Ben contributes his knowledge in marsh and wetland bird ecology and special-status species to a variety of environmental documents and projects.

Ben received an M.S. in Environmental Studies from San Jose State University and a B.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Ellen Tatum Pimentel is a senior plant ecologist and project manager. She has more than 15 years of experience. Ellen plans, implements, and monitors a variety of projects in vernal pool, grassland, riparian, freshwater and tidal wetland, and coastal dune communities throughout California.  She is trained in wetland delineation and the California Rapid Assessment Method (CRAM) for riverine, depressional, estuarine, and vernal pool wetlands.

Ellen received a M.A. in Biology and a B.S. in Environmental Science from Humboldt State University.

Mirelle Weber is a senior landscape designer and project manager in our San Francisco Bay Area office with eight years of experience. With a strong background in design, construction administration, and management, she has led numerous projects and teams on design and construction efforts for public parks and commercial and residential spaces throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Mirelle manages and contributes to a range of projects, from large-scale master planning to site-specific design and construction documentation. She applies her exceptional communication skills and attention to detail to guide the successful completion of client projects.

Mirelle received a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Landscape Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley Extension and a B.A. in Architecture and Urbanism from the Pontifical Catholic University of Goiás, Brazil.

Colin Wilkinson is an ecologist and project manager in our San Joaquin Valley office. He has more than 15 years of experience with special-status plant surveys and mapping vegetative communities in the southern and western San Joaquin Valley. He also has worked with wildlife, avian, and other species of California’s San Joaquin Valley, Sierra foothills and mountains, and Central Coast. Colin conducts avian and wildlife surveys including surveys for Swainson’s hawk, giant kangaroo rat, Tipton kangaroo rat, San Joaquin antelope squirrel, San Joaquin kit fox, American badger, western spadefoot, blunt-nosed leopard lizard, California red-legged frog, and California tiger salamander and performs wetland delineations.

Colin received a B.S. in biology (ecology and evolution) from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Dr. Rick Golightly is a noted avian and mammal ecologist with 40 years of experience. He specializes in the ecology of marbled murrelets and common murres. Rick has conducted extensive research into the behavior and ecology of marbled murrelets, both at sea and in nesting (old-growth forest) habitats. He uses his research results to inform the management and mitigation of impacts on murrelets ranging from potential wind turbine strikes to oil spills to the impact of national park activities on nesting success. Rick has also conducted investigations of canids, including coyotes and kit foxes, felids, ursids, fishers, and marten in the western United States. He has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed papers in more than 20 different scientific journals and has been the presenting author or coauthor for more than 200 technical paper presentations.

Rick received Ph.D. and M.S. in zoology from Arizona State University and a B.S. in biology from the University of California, Irvine.

Dr. Jim Harvey is an adjunct senior associate and marine ecologist with more than 30 years of experience. He has conducted research on foraging ecology and age and growth of blue sharks; foraging ecology, diving behavior, population dynamics, and effects of pollutants of harbor seals; migration and diving in gray and humpback whales, migration and foraging of Sooty shearwaters, diving and feeding of Leatherback turtles, interactions between marine mammals and fisheries; relationship between oceanographic conditions and marine birds and mammals; and assessing health and condition of marine turtles, birds, and mammals. He is fellow of the California Academy of Sciences.

Jim received his B.A. from San Jose State University, an M.S. from Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, and a Ph.D. from Oregon State University.

Dr. Dave Johnston is a renowned wildlife ecologist and authority on bats and other small mammals of the western United States and Hawai’i with more than 40 years of experience. In addition to bats, Dave has worked with numerous special-status species including the California red-legged frog, salt marsh harvest mouse, Ridgway’s rail, western snowy plover, south-central California coast steelhead evolutionarily significant unit (ESU), and central California coast steelhead ESU. Dave’s work includes evaluating habitat, assessing potential impacts, and proposing mitigation for bats and dozens of species in California, Hawai’i, Southwestern states and abroad. He also studies long-term post-construction impacts on birds and bats at solar and wind energy facilities, and modeling fatalities.

Dave is an adjunct professor at San José State University and a board member of the North American Society for Bat Research.

Dave received a Ph.D. in biology from York University; an M.A. in biological sciences from San José State University; and a B.S. in biology from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

Jon Duke is the chief operating officer at H. T. Harvey & Associates. He focuses on various areas of the firm’s business including operations, insurance, and health and safety. Jon has more than 15 years of experience leading finance and corporate strategy for a variety of companies. He has expertise in advising on growth opportunities and overall industry trends. Jon’s brings the combination of his academic background in ecology and professional experience to help evaluate the firm’s administrative and operational functions and ensure effective and efficient practices.

Jon has an M.B.A. from the W.P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University and a B.S. in ecology and evolutionary biology from the University of Arizona.

Cynthia Pollard Bell has nearly four decades of experience and leads the team which handles all our accounting functions. Having started with the company in 1998, she is one our longest-tenured employees. She’s a whiz with Ajera and an expert at tracking down numbers wherever they live (or hide).

Laura Keresty has more than 30 years of experience in ecological, sustainability, and natural resource-related positions along with content and product management roles in technology firms. In addition to leading company-wide marketing activities and communication initiatives, she is the managing editor of Harvey Ecology Field Notes.

Laura has an M.B.A. from the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley; and a B.A. in Government from Cornell University’s College of Arts and Sciences.

Linda Terrill serves as the company’s Health and Safety Coordinator. She works with company leadership to develop project safety plans in compliance with OSHA, Cal-OSHA, and other relevant regulatory guidance. She guides and collaborates with project managers to develop project-specific health and safety plans and guidance. She also administers the required follow-up and documentation processes.

Michael Wong has more than 10 years of experience in desktop support, server management, and computer networking. He’s well known for his “IT Force”—he can sometimes resolve computer issues by simply just standing in front of or talking to an employee. Whether setting up a new team member on a laptop, troubleshooting a server problem, or coaching on how to use a new software application, he helps every one of us (in 5 offices plus remote work locations) with friendly and responsive assistance. He, quite literally, keeps us all working!

Michael has a BS in Computer Engineering from San Jose State University.
