Landscape Architecture and Planning

H. T. Harvey & Associate’s landscape architects combine creative landscape planning and design skills with ecological training to create exceptional projects. Paired with our ecologists, the landscape architecture team has the capabilities to assist with all project phases from preliminary visioning and planning to construction and post-construction activities. Our projects cover habitat restoration, parks and trails, interpretative and educational programming, open space natural areas, private land use, and trail planning and design. Clients include public agencies, private land owners, developers, conservation groups, and conservation banks.

We work in both natural and urban environments, and at the interface between ecologically sensitive habitats and human uses. On sites where natural habitats adjoin more developed areas we incorporate appropriate natural landscapes to soften the urban edge and re-create natural habitats such as on the Facebook campus, at the Google campus Charleston Retention Basin, the Farm Neighborhood Park in Soquel, and at the Presidio of San Francisco. Currently we are leading a project team to design a new shoreline park in Burlingame, California.

Our suite of services includes:

  • Master planning
  • Conservation planning
  • Site analysis
  • Conceptual design
  • Detailed design construction documents, including cost estimates
  • Interpretive program design
  • Bid and construction support
  • Community outreach
  • Project management

Our team has experience in designing various habitat types including wetland and tidal marsh, vernal pool, grassland, riparian corridor, and woodland. We also design habitats particular to special-status species as well as harsh sites such as the Leona Quarry project.

Projects are designed in recognition of site constraints and biological principles, together with client budgets and schedules. We collaborate closely with our in-house ecologists to successfully translate ecological principles into practical concepts and readily constructible projects that benefit project stakeholders and meet client goals. We create legible, easy to bid and build construction documents, in the various jurisdictional formats required to meet local and regional agency requirements.
